Lena Pauline (Carpenter) Smith

Lena Pauline (Carpenter) Smith, age 77, of Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side on Wednesday December 13, 2023. She was born on December 1, 1946, to the late Leslie Ole and Opal L. (Garvin) Carpenter in Webster Springs, WV. She attended Webster Springs High School in Webster Springs, WV. Lena later married the love of her life, George W. Smith Jr., on January 28, 1967, in Brookville, PA. He preceded her in passing on November 20, 2023. They were blessed to spend over fifty-six years together. She was a nurse’s aide for thirty years at the Pennsylvania Memorial Home in Brookville, PA, until her retirement in 2000.

Lena enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life. She enjoyed flower gardening with her husband, cherishing the time they spent together. She also loved crafting ceramics, puzzles, and watching western movies. She loved to find a yard sale anywhere she would go. Lena was an avid book reader, especially mystery novels. Lena and her husband were also fishing partners throughout the years. Lena cherished her family and the precious times they spent together. She built a life with her husband and children, creating many memories she held dear. She especially loved to spoil the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lena touched the hearts of everyone she encountered with her kindness and dedication to the ones she loved. Lena will be greatly missed.

Lena is survived by three children; William Randall Carpenter of Brookville, PA, Robyn Lee (Larry) Carpenter of Webster Springs, WV, and Tammy Lynn (Kyle) Fiddler of Lake City, PA; six grandchildren; Larry Joe II (Cynthiea) Williams, Kellan Fiddler, Keaton Fiddler, Zach Carpenter, Heather (Paul) Plyler, and Brianna Cogley; five great-grandchildren; Dannielle “Danni” Williams, Levi Williams, Colton Hughes, Ella Plyler, and Ava Plyler; one brother; Leslie James Carpenter; and two sisters; Ina Jeanne Parton and Pamela Carpenter.

In addition to her parents and the recent passing of her husband George, Lena was preceded in death by one son; Kelly Jay Carpenter; two sisters; Phyllis June Newman and Alison Rosalie Holcomb; and one brother-in-law; Larry Parton.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, December 16, 2023, from 11 am – 1 pm, at the Carrier Funeral Home 2834 Maplevale Rd., Brookville, PA 15825. A funeral service will follow the viewing, also at the funeral home, beginning at 1:00 pm, and officiated by Pastor Tim Spence. Interment will take place privately at Lakelawn Memorial Park, Winslow Township, Jefferson Co., PA.
