Bernice B. (Haugh) Alexander Obituary

Bernice B. (Haugh) Alexander, age 89, of Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at McKinley Health Center in Brookville, PA. Bernice was born in Roseville, PA, on April 24, 1935, the daughter of the late Edward Nathan and AnnaBelle (Shea) Haugh.


Bernice married the love of her life, Carl Donald Alexander, on June 20, 1953, at her parent’s home in Roseville, PA. He preceded her in passing on January 13, 1989.  For over thirty-five years, they were blessed to build a life and family together.


In 1953 Bernice graduated from Clarion Limestone High School in Strattanville, PA.


Bernice was a lifelong member of the Roseville Church of Christ in Roseville, PA.  Over the years, she was employed at McCory’s in Brookville, PA, elected as the Union Township Tax Collector, drove bus for C-L School District, was a Census Intake Worker, and a Union Township Polling Worker. She was a very successful Independent Contractor for Home Interiors Inc., and also a Senior Exercise Instructor at both Brookside Senior Living, and the Heritage House in Brookville, PA.


Bernice was proficient in multiple hobbies such as: tending to her many beautiful flowers, knitting, sewing, quilting, and crocheting.  She always had an afghan that she was working on to ‘gift to someone’. Bernice took great pleasure in baking and cooking meals for family and friends. Everyone looked forward to her perfectly prepared homemade buns. She was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates, often watching their games on TV.


Bernice enjoyed reading good books and had an adventurous spirit; even trying skydiving and white water rafting later in life. Traveling was a passion for her which included trips to Europe and visiting family across the United States. She was a caretaker for family keepsakes and memories. Bernice leaves behind a legacy of living life to the fullest, filled with love and commitment to her faith and family. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. 


Bernice is survived by one son; Kenneth B. (Susan) Alexander, Brookville, PA; son-in-law; Harry L. “Abe” Miller, Rockton, PA; daughters-in-law; Brenda S. Alexander, Brookville, PA, and Beverly J. Alexander of Brockway, PA; twelve grandchildren; Erika (Brian) Kammerdeiner, Kevin (Megan) Alexander, Megan (Will) Miller, Tina (Joshua) Walton, Lisa (Shane) Dittman, Trista Foster, Brien Alexander, Stefany (Mitch) Minich, Faith Alexander, Mindi (Kevin) Tucker, Mikki Valenzuela, and Stacy (Brian) Fiscus; fifteen great-grandchildren; Laela and Maya Kammerdeiner, Liam, Sophia, and Nolan Walton, Kaden and Baily Miller, Ethan Dittman, Aurora Alexander, Keera and Abel Tucker, Kayla Anderson, Raee Valenzuela, River Skalicky, Colton Fiscus; and a new great-grandchild arriving in September; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents and husband Carl, Bernice was preceded in death by two sons; Michael C. Alexander and Jay B. Alexander; one daughter; Sue A. Miller; two brothers; Donald S. Haugh and N. Dale Haugh; five sisters; Julia A. Grove, Gladys R. Hartzell, L. Agnes Carr, Elva M. Klingensmith and Barbara V. Hartzell. Bernice was the last surviving member of her immediate family.


Family and friends will be received on Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 12 pm to 3 pm at the Carrier Funeral Home, 2834 Maplevale, Rd., Brookville, PA 15825.  A funeral service will be held following the viewing also at the Carrier Funeral Home, beginning at 3:00 pm, and officiated by Pastor John Hartzell.                      


Interment will take place privately at the Roseville Bethel Cemetery, Union Twp., Jefferson Co., PA.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carrier Funeral Home, 2834 Maplevale, Rd., Brookville, PA 15825.
