David L. Welton Obituary

David Loren Welton, age 84, of Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at the Jefferson Court Assisted Living in Brookville, PA, surrounded by his loving family. David was born in Grove City, PA, on November 27, 1939, to the late Henry Orville and Louella Mae (Johnson) Welton.


David graduated from Grove City High School in Grove City, PA with the class of 1958. He received his bachelor’s degree from Grove City College in Grove City, PA in 1962. He later achieved his Master of Business Administration from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama.


During his time at Grove City College, David participated in the R.O.T.C. Following his college education, he joined the United States Air Force in 1962. David served his country proudly as a Colonel, devoting twenty-six years of his life as an engineer and intelligence analyst, before retiring in 1988. After retirement, he was an instructor at Penn State DuBois in DuBois, PA for numerous years.  


David encountered the love of his life, Lillian Deanna (Pierce) Welton, while they were students at Grove City College. They were married on January 30, 1962, in Corsica, PA; she survives. They shared a lifelong bond of love and dedication to each other for over sixty-two years.


David was a loyal member of the First Baptist Church in Brookville, PA. He was a commander in the American Legion in Brookville, PA, and served as a deacon at several churches throughout his life.


David’s pastime activities included golfing, hunting and square dancing. He had many talents and together with his son, Dale, constructed their log home. During his retirement, he and Deanna enjoyed traveling south in the winter, as well as taking many family vacations with their children and grandchildren.


David was a man of principle and was committed to his faith and family. He embraced life to the fullest and shared his experiences with his family and friends. David cherished his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.


In addition to his wife Deanna, David is survived by two sons; Randon S. (Michelle) Welton, Dale H. (Elizabeth) Welton; three grandchildren; Sean D. (Oliwia) Welton, Shannon M. Welton, Deanna Jane Welton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.


In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by two brothers; Robert Welton and Wiley Welton; three sisters; Thelma Neeley, Josephine Wagner, and Della Mae Patterson. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.


Family and friends will be received on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 10 am – 1pm at the First Baptist Church, 101 Main Street, Brookville, PA. The funeral service will be held following the viewing, beginning at 1:00 pm, also at the First Baptist Church and officiated by Pastor David Blair. Military honors will follow the service and be conducted by the Brookville Honor Guard. 


Interment will take place privately at the Brookville Cemetery, Brookville, Jefferson Co., PA.
