Karen Ann Byerly, age 69, of Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor in Brookville, PA. Karen was born in Munich, Germany, on March 15, 1955, to the late Norman R. and Edith M. (Snyder) Byerly.                                                

Karen graduated from Brookville High School in Brookville, PA with the class of 1973.  She earned her Bachelor of Science in Philosophy and Sociology from the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA. While in college, she was a member of the Delta Phi Epsilon sorority and a “little sister” for a fraternity of engineers and scientists.

For over fifty years, Karen was a long-standing member of the Brookville Evangelical Methodist Church in Brookville, PA.

Throughout her life, she had a wide range of interests, yet her lifelong enthusiasm remained focused on reading, especially science fiction and true story novels.

Karen initially worked at the Sirloin Family Restaurant before dedicating over twenty-five years of her career as a waitress at the Eat’n Park Restaurant in Pittsburgh, PA, before retiring.

During that time, she met Matt Moeller at the Squirrel Hill Cafe in Pittsburgh, PA, and he became her lifelong partner; their relationship endured for more than thirty-four years until his passing in 2018.

Karen is survived by her two siblings; Karl (Marla) Byerly, and Kay Byerly all of Brookville, PA, three nephews; Jeremy, Norman, and Tommy Byerly; life partner’s siblings; Karen (Moeller) Straub of Pittsburgh, PA and David Moeller of Pittsburgh, PA, as well as numerous great nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her parents and life partner Matthew Moeller, Karen is preceded in death by a sister; Kimberly Byerly.

A memorial service will take place on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at the Carrier Funeral Home, 2834 Maplevale Rd., Brookville, PA 15825, beginning at 1:00 pm and officiated by Mr. Reverend Loren McQueen.

Interment will take place privately by the Carrier Funeral Home at St. John’s (Windy Hill) Cemetery, Rose Twp., Jefferson Co., PA. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carrier Funeral Home, 2834 Maplevale, Rd., Brookville, PA 15825.
