Maxine M. (Weary) Zimmerman Obituary

Maxine Mae (Weary) Zimmerman, age 94, of Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 24, 2025, at the Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor in Brookville, PA. Maxine was born at home in Winslow Twp., PA, on December 26, 1930, to the late Harry Weary and Kelista (Snyder) Weary Krull. Maxine attended Brockway High School in Brockway, PA, and later earned her GED in 1968.


Maxine married the love of her life, Clyde "Pete" A. Zimmerman on May 1, 1948, at the bride’s home in Hormtown, PA. He preceded her in death on July 6, 2004. For over fifty-six years, the couple shared a deeply loving and devoted marriage while raising their children together.


Maxine was employed as a Municipal Authority Auditor for Jefferson County, PA, from January 1992 to December 2019, retiring after twenty-seven years, at age 89.


Maxine was a member of the Emerickville Methodist Church in Emerickville, PA, a member of the Eastern Star organization for fifty years, and Mother Advisor to the Rainbow Girls. She was also a board member for the Jefferson County J.C.A.R.C.


Throughout her lifetime, Maxine dedicated herself to serving her community and country through her active participation with the Republican Party, a commitment spanning more than sixty-five years. During that time, she was the Republican Chairperson of Jefferson County, PA, a Republican State Committee Representative, and a Republican Delegate to the National Convention held in Detroit, MI in 1980 and New Orleans, LA in 1988. Maxine was included in Who’s Who of American Politics, a publication that recognizes prominent individuals in the community.


Maxine enjoyed pastime activities which included assembling jigsaw puzzles and sewing quilts, with a special focus on making them for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved playing cards and hosted numerous weekend sleepovers for her sisters and cousins to indulge in the fun of card games.


Maxine dedicated herself to her family in countless ways as a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and great-grandmother. They were always the light of her life, and she treasured the beautiful memories they shared together. Those who knew and loved Maxine will remember her lifelong dedication to her family and community for the rest of their lives.


Maxine is survived by three daughters; Cheryl (Melvin) Raudabaugh of New Kingstown, PA, Vickie (Gary) Hopkins of Edinboro, PA, and Penny (Donald) Girasia of Belle Vernon, PA; seventeen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; two sisters; Evelyn (Glenn) Weary Sutter of Reynoldsville, PA, Violet (Albert) Weary Penak Getty of Wexford, PA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents and husband, Maxine is preceded in death by one son; Douglas C. Zimmerman on October 4, 2005, one daughter; Cindy M. (Zimmerman) Childs on May 18, 1995; twin great-granddaughters; Shaela and Erika Girasia on December 31, 1999; siblings; William Weary, Elmer (Nate) Weary, Willedean (Weary) Bussard, and Louise (Weary) Bish Miller.


In accordance with the family’s wishes, there will be no services held. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.


Interment will take place privately at the Moore Cemetery, Pine Creek Twp., Jefferson Co., PA.  Arrangements are under the care of the Carrier Funeral Home, 2834 Maplevale, Rd., Brookville, PA 15825.


The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at both Brookside Assisted Living and Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor for providing ongoing care for their mother.
