Nancy Isabelle (McAninch) Johnston, age 87, of Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, at home in Brookville, PA surrounded by her extensive and loving family. Nancy was born in Brookville, PA, on July 24, 1937, to the late Leonard I. and Mildred M. (Miller) McAninch. Nancy graduated from Brookville High School in Brookville, PA with the class of 1955.

Nancy worked at the Brookville Glove Factory and Dan Smith’s Candies, both located in Brookville, PA.  Later in her life, she took on a caregiver role for her parents and her husband. 

Nancy married Basil L. Johnston, on October 25, 1958, in Brookville, PA. The couple was blessed with more than forty-three years of a loving marriage filled with a deep sense of love and companionship. Basil preceded her in death in January 2002.

Nancy was a member of the Brookville Evangelical Methodist Church in Brookville, PA.

Throughout her life, Nancy participated in a wide variety of pastimes. She took pleasure in her card club, lunches with her cousins and former co-workers, knitting, and mowing her lawn with her John Deer tractor.  She had been a sports enthusiast for as long as her grandchildren were involved and would often bake cookies and treats for the entire team. Nancy also created holiday gift bags for her church family and friends, served as a ticket seller and “information” for the Haunted Barn, and regularly attended reflexology sessions.

Nancy was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a doting grandmother. She had an unwavering enthusiasm for experiencing life to its fullest. Nancy was dedicated to her family and cherished the quality time she shared with her loved ones at family gatherings, resulting in a multitude of memories. She took immense pride in being a significant figure in each of their lives. Nancy loved intensely, yet appreciated the simple everyday moments, which will be remembered by all who loved her.

Nancy is survived by four daughters; Cynthia Welsh, Melany (Alan) Rhoades, Joyce Park, Chris (Pat) Hughes all of Brookville, PA; thirteen grandchildren; Greg (Marlana) Welsh, Jenna Welsh, Chad Welsh, Angi (Rob) Bowser, Daniel Rhoades, Jonathan (Katelyn) Rhoades, Joshua (Regina) Park, Ali (Zion Alexander) Park, Stacy (Kelly) Park, Andy (Erin) Park, Tessa (Nick) Silvis, Devin Stormer, Dakota (Paige Klaiber) Stormer; seventeen great-grandchildren; Cory Ross, Kellen Welsh, Alissa (Tyler Joiner) Watterson, Mara Bowser, Kailin Bowser, Rylan Bowser, Wren Rhoades, Isabel Park, Liadan Park, Keenan Park, Jaiden Silvis, Brynlee Silvis, Adley Silvis, Lila Stormer, Trevor Stormer, Hattie Stormer, and Oliver Stormer.

In addition to her parents and husband Basil, Nancy was preceded in death by one brother; William McAninch; two grandchildren; Lexi Park, Tiernan Park; and one son-in-law; James Park.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 2 – 4 and 5 – 7 pm, at the Brookville Evangelical Methodist Church, 30 S. White Street, Brookville, PA 15825. A second viewing will take place on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 9:30 – 10:30 am. A funeral service will take place immediately following the second viewing, beginning at 11:00 am, and officiated by Reverend Mr. Loren McQueen also at the Brookville Evangelical Methodist Church, 30 S. White Street, Brookville, PA 15825.

Interment will take place privately at the Roseville Bethel Cemetery, Union Twp., Jefferson Co., PA.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carrier Funeral Home, 2834 Maplevale, Rd., Brookville, PA 15825.
