Nancy Elizabeth (Milligan) Painter, age 83, of Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor in Brookville, PA. Nancy was born in Clearfield, PA, on August 13, 1942, to the late Howard J. and Mary Elva (Lanich) Milligan.
Nancy graduated from Clearfield High School in Clearfield, PA, with the class of 1960. She later received an associate’s degree from DuBois Business School in DuBois, PA.
Nancy initially worked at White-Brook in Brookville, PA, before being employed as a secretary in the high school guidance department at Brookville Area School District in Brookville, PA for more than thirty years. All of her coworkers fondly referred to her as “The Boss.”
Nancy was a long-serving member of the Brookville Evangelical Methodist Church and Brookville First Methodist Church in Brookville, PA. She taught Sunday school for over thirty years and was known as the “The Graham Cracker Lady.” For many years, she held positions as the United Methodist Women’s treasurer, a Girl Scout leader, and cheerleader advisor.
Nancy was active in several card clubs and enjoyed playing cards with her friends. In addition to leisurely walks, she also loved shopping and was diligent with her cleaning routine. She would always take one week off from her job to thoroughly clean her entire home. Nancy had a particular fondness for watching all sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Nancy was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family. She supported and attended all of her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. Throughout the years, she was consistently present and actively involved with all of their lives. Her strength, compassion, and faith will continue to guide her loved ones every day.
Nancy is survived by three children; Greg (Sulyn) Painter of Clarion, PA, Jennifer (Patrick) Barr of Sigel, PA, Michelle (Jerry) Thompson of Pottstown, PA; six grandchildren; Megan (Corey) Khalil, Dan Ion, Ellis (Rachel) Painter, James, Jeremy (fiancé Abby), and Jack Thompson; three great-grandchildren; Elizabeth Khalil, Elias Khalil, Rory Painter, and her future sibling on the way; and one sister; Barb Huggins.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her Aunt Jane Lanich. The family would like to thank the nurses, staff, and hospice from Brookeside Assisted Living, and the Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor for care given to Nancy.
Family and friends will be received for a visitation on Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Carrier Funeral Home, 2834 Maplevale, Rd., Brookville, PA 15825. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 16, 2026, also at the Carrier Funeral Home beginning at 11:00 am and officiated by Pastor Joe Short.
Interment will take place privately at the Historic Crown Crest Cemetery, Clearfield, Clearfield Co., PA. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carrier Funeral Home, 2834 Maplevale, Rd., Brookville, PA 15825.
