Samuel George Reitz, age 88, of Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital in Dubois, PA. Samuel was born in Emerickville, PA, on June 4, 1936, to the late Mervin S. and Hattie E. (Johnson) Reitz.

Samuel graduated from Punxsutawney High School in Punxsutawney, PA. He served his country with pride as a corporal in the United States Army from 1959 to 1960.

Samuel married his true love, Freda V. (Hice) Reitz on May 19, 1962, in Brookville, PA. Their marriage was blessed with a love that endured for more than sixty years. Freda preceded him in death in 2022. Samuel was fortunate when he found love again and married Harriet D. (Swineford) (Kerr) Reitz on January 21, 2023; she survives.

Samuel attended the Roseville Independent Chapel in Brookville, PA. He was dedicated to his faith and served as an elder within the church. Samuel spent more than thirty-five years employed by Mid Continent Telephone- Alltel as a telephone splicer and service repairman before his retirement. 

Samuel had many pastimes that included playing the guitar, bowling, and hunting. He enjoyed listening to bluegrass and country music, as well as watching classic western movies. Throughout his life, camping with his family held a special place in his heart. Samuel held a deep affection for his family and was intensely proud of them. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his second wife Harriet, Samuel is survived by four children; Kenny (Sandy) Reitz of Brookville, PA, Ted (Patty) Kerr of Punxsutawney, PA, Tim (Laura) Kerr of Punxsutawney, PA, Susan (Jim) Fillhart of Punxsutawney, PA; one daughter-in-law; Ann (Haney) Reitz of Brookville, PA; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his siblings; Melvin (Ginny) Reitz of Ohl, PA, Shelvy (Walt) Mowery of Allens Mills, PA, Thelma (Jim) Johns of Brockway, PA; one brother-in-law; Carl Hice of Brookville, PA as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and first wife Freda, Samuel was preceded in death by one son; Gary L. Reitz and one brother; Frank Reitz.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, December 22, 2024, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Carrier Funeral Home, 2834 Maplevale, Rd., Brookville, PA 15825. A second viewing will take place on Monday, December 23, 2024, from 9 am to 11 am at the Roseville Independent Chapel in Brookville, PA. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024, beginning at 11:00 am also at the church and officiated by Pastor James Fillhart. Military honors will follow the service and be conducted by the Brookville Honor Guard.

Interment will take place privately at Lakelawn Memorial Park, Winslow Township, Jefferson Co., PA. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carrier Funeral Home, 2834 Maplevale, Rd., Brookville, PA 15825.
