It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sara Catherine (Silvis) Zeigler, who left us on Saturday, February 15, 2025. Sara was a cherished member of our community, known for her kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to and love for her family and friends. Sara treated everyone she met with kindness and leaves behind a legacy of love.
Sara was born on May 9, 1938, in Brookville, PA, to the late Burt and Sara Silvis. She grew up in Brookville and attended Brookville Area Schools.
Sara’s professional journey began at The American Hotel, where she met Don “Po” Zeigler and learned to hate mushrooms and shellfish.
Sara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She married Don in December of 1960 in Smicksburg, PA, and together they built a loving home filled with joy and laughter. Sara was a proud parent to Sharon and Molly, whom she adored and supported in all their endeavors.
Sara had a wide range of interests and hobbies. She was an enthusiastic gardener, homemaker and cook. She often spent her free time volunteering at Jefferson Manor and was a life-long blood donor at The American Red Cross. Sara was a long-time member of TOPS. Her enthusiasm and zest for life was contagious, inspiring those around her to live fully and treat everyone with kindness.
Sara is survived by her sister; Donna, and brothers; Gene and Laddie; her daughters; Sharon Kay Snyder, and Molly Ann Zeigler and daughter-in-law Karen Whitt; grandsons Thomas Snyder, and Don Snyder and his wife Kelsey; one great grandson; Hunter Snyder; and one great granddaughter; Charlotte Snyder; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her beloved husband of 62 years, Don Zeigler; and her parents, Sara is preceded in death by two sisters; Flo and Lillian; and three brothers; Jim, Al, and Billy. The loss of Sara is felt deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live in the hearts of her family, friends, and the countless individuals whose lives she touched.
Sara’s remarkable journey through life was marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the incredible legacy of love she leaves behind. Sara will be remembered for her kindness, laughter, and the profound impact she had on all who knew her. Rest in peace, Sara. You will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from 5 – 8 pm, at the Carrier Funeral Home, 2834 Maplevale Rd., Brookville, PA 15825. A second viewing will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 10 – 11 am, also at the funeral home. A funeral service will take place following the second viewing, beginning at 11:00 am, and officiated by Pastor Matt Snedden. Interment will take place privately at Lakelawn Memorial Park, Winslow Twp., Jefferson Co., PA.
